Trina and Tara sent out another great theme for this month's photo challenge. This month's theme is dream. I love how this theme can hold many different meanings. My photo represents the unexpected beauty that dreams reveal to the dreamer. On a hike in the mountains of Southern Colorado, this aspen grove took my breath away. It was nearly unexpected because up until this point, I was hiking through a pretty dense forest made up of mostly pine trees, then everything opened up, sunlight filtered in and the aspen leaves danced in the warm summer breeze. May this beautiful moment in an aspen grove fall into my dreams time and time again. May your dreams be filled with beauty and hope. This summer has been flying by with visitors and road trips. Earlier this summer, my husband and I drove to Las Vegas from Albuquerque. It was an interesting experience, however I'm not much of a city person. Thankfully there is a beautiful wilderness right outside of Las Vegas. I fell in love with this area so much that my husband and I returned nearly every day to explore a new little piece of this wilderness (even in the sweltering temperatures).
Tara Victoria and Latrina from Of Trees and Hues created a monthly photo challenge. The theme for this month is colour. Last month was the first month that I chose to participate. I'm so glad that I chose to participate because I was able to link up with other talented photographers. When this challenge was released, I was in Las Vegas, Nevada with my husband. He was there for work and I was there to check another state off of my list and to experience something new. I snapped this shot of an art installation in the lobby of the Bellagio hotel. I loved how the light brought these hand blown glass sculptures to life. It was absolutely enchanting.
This weekend was Herb Fest at Rio Grande Nature Center and it was filled with wonderful volunteers who make a difference in Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. I spoke to several volunteers with Wildlife Rescue, Inc. of New Mexico. The volunteers were handling beautiful education birds and informing the public of what to do in the event that they find an injured animal. Today, there were a few owls out meeting the public. These owls had been injured by vehicles and have been educating the public for 3-7 years now. These birds had personality and they were a hoot (sorry, but I couldn't resist this pun).
Today the weather was just perfect. It was sunny with a nice, cool, non-dusty breeze to keep us from getting too warm. The weather begged us to have a picnic, so we stopped by our local co-op and picked up some delicious goodies. After a drive to the other side of Sandia and back to town, it was time to stop by the Rio Grande Nature Center and Los Poblanos Ranch.
This weekend was filled with lots of local fun in the city of Albuquerque. On Saturday, my husband and I went to the May Day Celebration at Skarsgard Farms to swing on giant two seater swings, eat local food and buy organic and locally grown plants for our porch. On Sunday, we went to the opening day of the Rail Yard Market in Albuquerque. It's very exciting for our city to open up a new large scale market in the heart of downtown. What makes it so very unique is the location. It is located in one of the old rail yard buildings. It was a packed market filled with local growers, art vendors, and musicians. I hope that this market continues to grow and becomes a major attractions to visitors to our cities as well as continuing to draw in the local crowd. .
The hummingbirds are returning to New Mexico! Every year they continue to enchant me. It's time to put up the hummingbird feeders on the balcony. Hopefully we will get lots of visitors this summer!
Two wonderful photographers (Trina, author of Of Trees and Hues and Tara, author of Tara Victoria) have started a monthly photography challenge titled Between Lenses. The theme for April is warmth. Check out their beautiful imagery here and here.
For me, warmth can be caught in moments with friends and moments in nature. Honestly, when I'm with friends in nature, then life is beyond awesome. I chose a photo that is special to me, because it was taken after a long day of hiking with my best friend and husband in Mesa Verde National Park. We had just moved across the country to live on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation in Northern New Mexico. We were new to the area and didn't really know anyone yet, so we took this transitional time to go on adventures together. This photo of warmth doesn't show us, but rather it captures a moment of peace, reflection, and warmth for each of us. Where do you find warmth? |
