This weekend was Herb Fest at Rio Grande Nature Center and it was filled with wonderful volunteers who make a difference in Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. I spoke to several volunteers with Wildlife Rescue, Inc. of New Mexico. The volunteers were handling beautiful education birds and informing the public of what to do in the event that they find an injured animal. Today, there were a few owls out meeting the public. These owls had been injured by vehicles and have been educating the public for 3-7 years now. These birds had personality and they were a hoot (sorry, but I couldn't resist this pun).

Oh my goodness. I absolutely adore owls, so much! I think they're just the cutest animals... those poor babies, I love how they've been taken in and being cared for. They're just the sweetest!

I've never seen photos like this before, it's always so sad seeing animals who have been hurt especially because of people. But it's also great that there are places where people care for those animals. Owls are gorgeous creatures, and with their eyes being a large part of owls and how we think of them, it's strange seeing them with blind eyes. Thank you for these photos!

Thank you Latrina and Shani! I'm so glad that there are animal rescue centers in New Mexico and that these injured owls get a second chance as education birds. The volunteers and the owls had so much personality that I may have to join as a volunteer later this year. Thank you for your comments. : )
